Friday's Fun Fact: Supermoon This Weekend!

Sunday's moon will be the closest the moon has been or will be in 2015. You can catch this rare and miraculous event starting at 7:11 (surely they are capitalizing on that coincidence ;) ) and it will be at it's peek

Not only are we granted the opportunity to see the super moon but Sunday's moon will also be a lunar eclipse. The combination of these two events gives us a blood moon. Many refer to this event as The Harvest Moon.

Updated Press Release 9/27

The harvest moon is the full moon that is seen nearest to the time of the autumnal equinox. The supermoon is a new moon or full moon that comes within 224,834 miles of Earth, as measured from the centers of the moon and Earth. The blood moon occurs when a full moon experiences a lunar eclipse. All three of these lunar events happen tonight!

The moon will be at umbra at about 8:07PM CST, meaning it will officially be in the Earth's full shadow. The total eclipse begins at 9:11PM CST. "otality lasts an hour and 12 minutes, at which point a bright sliver of the moon will emerge and grow,” according to Live Science.
