Thirsty Thursday: The 2016 Chevy Malibu and Malibu Hybrid

The 2016 Chevy Malibu boasts a 37 MPG estimate for city commutes and automatic start stop technology to save you money at the pump. This technology will automatically shut down the engine when the car is at a complete stop and will efortlessly refire when the brake is released. This feature comes standard in the Malibu; even though most manufacturers consider it to be a luxury and are charging an additional fee for it to be included in the base models.

The all-new Malibu Hybrid features advanced fuel saving technology. This award winning model is estimated to offer up to 48 miles per gallon in the city, and has a smart engine that automatically switches between gas and electric mode or uses both when more power is needed.

I know it's #ThirstyThursday, and I should remain focused on the fuel economy of the Malibu, but have you seen it?

Sleek sophistication! The all new design leaves little to be desired and much to be admired! If the smooth and refined exterior doesn't start your engine; the lush interior surely will. Premium Quality; two words that come to mind when we look inside this cabin... and cabin isn't even the right word... let's call it a five star resort! The style and comfort are on equal pars in this car. So often we are given one without the other. "No More!" says Chevy. The Malibu promises to deliver the best of both worlds.

Let's not forget the technology; they certainly didn't. There are a ton of options for this model, but there is also a large list of standard features! They have the obvious touch screen infotainment, cell phone features like MyLink and BlueTooth pairing, but what really has the headlights flashing is the Teen Driver Feature. This innovative technology allows parents to program a FOB to the MyLink system to not only monitor a particular driver, but they can also control certain limitations. Speed for example. Parents can input a speed limit; when exceeded the driver will be issued a warning to slow the vehicle. They can also input settings that will mute all audio until the seatbelt is fastened, and will record all speed and the use of safety features. How far did they drive? What speed did they travel at? Were seatbelts fastened? How often did the car engage stability control and anti-lock brakes? How many alerts were given? Alerts include collision aversion from lane changes and from upcoming obstacles; like following the car in front of you too closely.

Chevy's Teen Driver; is a first for the industry. Fully built-in system that tracks car data, allowing parents to view how their teen drove. Parents can even set a maximum radio volume; so it is not a distraction. Parents can check the report card directly from the MyLink system. Chevy encourages parents to do so regularly and to discuss any concerns with the driver in question promptly.

Am I the only one who thinks most fleet vehicles will also adopt this feature? Company cars, rental cars, taxis etc. this application will span far beyond parental control, but it's primary focus is increasing the driver's attention and preventing accidents.

Speaking of which; we can't really discuss a cars features without talking about the safety! The Malibu is no schmuck in this category either. Featuring a steel cage of safety. The 2016 Malibu is BOTH larger and lighter thanks to the durable, high-strength and light weight steel frame.

Topping the safety charts with it's frame and features; the Malibu and Hybrid both offer TEN Air Bags! Everything from dual side to rear and including the most recent technology for optimum safety!

The 2016 Chevy Malibu is what we here at Mineral Wells Chevrolet Buick GMC refer to as a perfect 10! Across the board the Malibu excels and exceeds expectations!
