Just Say No to Barbie Jeep Girl.

When people think about Drinking and Driving. It should be stories about those who have lost their lives; those left with permanent physical and mental inadequacies. Glorifying the rebellous and wreckless actions of a college student who chose to get behind the wheel drunk, and is now without a car should be the last thing on our minds. Moral; You Drink. You Drive. You Lose! Tara is incredibly lucky that she did not injure or kill herself or others. She is lucky she is not serving jail time, and she is lucky that she is able to continue living her life, pursuing her education, and has no real consequences.

I realize that in some way by writing this post we are "glorifying" her actions. However, I can no longer sit idly by while this is trending everywhere. Tara Monroe, aka “Barbie Jeep Girl” took the internet by storm last week; when she was seen using a power wheels to travel across campus. While it may be humorous to see a full-grown child (regardless of her age) in a tiny, pink, battery operated toy; the events leading up to her “ingenuity” are being carelessly disregarded. Tara was pulled over and issued a citation for driving while intoxicated after refusing to submit to a breathalyzer. While she tops the newsfeeds on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram; I find myself wondering; do people not realize she could have KILLED someone? At that point; this little gem popped up on my newsfeed, after being shared by a friend. I have to tell you I could not have said it better myself.

So before sharing her “story” or sympathizing over her "situation"; please, remember she is not an underprivileged college student who cannot afford a car. In fact, she was given a car--by her parents-- that her father, who should be receiving all of the internet stardom, took away! Even then, he left her with a bike to travel across campus. She is not the unfortunate victim of circumstance, and she did not lose her car because she was struck by a drunk driver or an uninsured motorist. She has no car and has decided to “travel in style” because she made the irresponsible, selfish, decision to drive while intoxicated. It is not "cute", "genius", or a "creative solution". It is the unrepenant and disrespectful response to a serious and life threatening situation. It is a childish response with a blatantly obvious disregard for humanity! Continuing to glorify her actions sends the wrong message! Take a stand and put an end to drunk driving. You could help save a life!
