ALUMINUM Vs. STEEL: A Comparison of the Chevy Silverado and the Ford F150

With the debut of the all new aluminum bodied F-150; many wonder why Chevrolet is not following suit. While they are using aluminum on key areas like the hood; Chevy continues to utilize "ole faithful" a steel frame and body.

So just how is Chevy Tradition stacking up to Ford Innovation? Chevrolet hired AMCI Testing, an independent third party to conduct test on the Silverado and the F150. The trucks experienced identical impacts, and were each sent to a certified repair shop. The F150 took 34 days longer and $1755 more to repair; costing potential drivers more time and money! Arguably, there are some perks to the aluminum addition; lighter weight and easier handling are two pointed out by the team at offroad.com.

For some it will be a simple matter of preference; others will carefully consider the impact that the dramatic switch to aluminum will inflict on maintenance and repair costs and time. Either way, we are #TeamChevy through and through; here at Mineral Wells Chevrolet.

The Silverado is, afterall, from the family of the most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickups on the road. The 2015 Chevy work horse is sleek, smart, and strong. Integrating modern technology with traditional style; the Silverado is a homerun.
